CUMEME is always open to new members who share our passion for Middle Eastern and Mediterranean music. We welcome the participation of instrumentalists, percussion players and singers.
A wide variety of different instruments are currently played, or have been played in the past, in the ensemble. These include: oud, qanun, nay, kaval, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, Arabic accordian, Arabic electronic keyboard, kemanche, tar, saz, rebaba, duduk, clarinet, soprano sax, darbuka, riq, and bendir (frame drum).
For those CUMEME participants who would like to learn to play a Middle Eastern instrument, we have some instruments available for loan.
Although most members of the ensemble are affiliated with Cornell in some way, you do not have to be a member of the Cornell community in order to join the ensemble. Our rehearsals take place every Monday evening during the academic year 7:00-9:00 pm in B21 Lincoln Hall at Cornell's Ithaca campus.
Anyone interested in joining the ensemble should send an email to email@example.com.
